Dryline and warm front setup in Kansas. Targeted Hays, KS where dryline initiated storms would move towards better directional shear near warm front. Ran south from Hays towards storms initiating near Dodge City. Intercepted west of Kinsley, KS noting wall cloud. Storm gusted out into massive HP supercell. Noted weak leading edge tornado west of Kinsley before getting cored in Kinsley and dropping south. Followed storm from south noting gustnadoes and massive dust storm. Saw straight line wind damage and drove over downed power lines. Attempted to punch core from south but hit tree debris and cracked windshield from golfball sized hail. Dropped south and called chase off, heading to Pratt to get dinner and stop for the night.

Skip’s Chase Log: June 14, 2009 – Ulysses, KS

Dryline setup in SW KS. Targeted Dodge City, KS with Adam Lucio. Departed from Clarendon, TX and headed west from Liberal, KS towards initiation in SE CO. Intercepted severe warned cell near Johnson City and noted brief lowering. Followed cell westward into CO before intercepting tail end charlie back in KS. Followed storm from north to Ulysses, KS noting RFD clear slot and tornado. Caught in hook afterwards with severe winds. Broke out ahead to outflow dominant HP supercell. Called chase off but intercepted again after storm regained tornado warning. Viewed base from afar noting scud before stopping in Medicine Lodge for night.

Skip’s Chase Log: June 5, 2009 – Harrisburg, NE

Upslope flow setup in Wyoming and Colorado. Targeted Sterling, CO. Left Westchester at 10:00 pm solo arriving in Sterling at 2 pm. Ran north into Nebraska for storms initiating in southeast Wyoming. Intercepted storm just south of Harrisburg, NE at 4:30 pm noting stovepipe tornado. Watched tornado rope out from distance and observed storm approach with cycling wall cloud and funnels. Followed storm until it gusted out at 8 pm east of Dalton, NE. Celebrated with steak dinner in Sidney, NE with Stan Rose and IL gang.
